Preparation of Bordeaux Mixture/Paste

 INTRODUCTION

Bordeaux Mixture is a mixture of lime and copper sulphate  it is an effective  fungicide and bactericide for horticulture crop. They are mainly used for canker, Gummosis, Twig die-back, Anthracnose die back, cercospora leaf spot, Downy mildew etc.

Procedure for preparation of 10% Bordeaux Paste(1:1:10)

  • Copper sulphate 1 kg, quick lime 1 kg,  water 10 litres.
  • Break the copper sulphate crystals into fine powder and dissolve in 5 litres of water in a  plastic bucket.
  • Prepare milk of lime in another 5 litres of water in a plastic bucket.
  • Pour the copper sulphate solution into the milk of lime make it 10 lit solution, slowly stirring the mixture with wooden stick.
  • Before use check the solution ph simply deep a iron rod 2-5 minutes if they shows a reddish brown colour add more lime till the Iron rod is not stained on dipping.
  • It is mainly use for paste.

Procedure for preparation of 1% Bordeaux Mixture(1:1:100)

  • Copper sulphate 1kg, quick lime 275 or 400 gram, water 100lit.
  • Copper sulphate 1kg mixed in 15 lit of water in a plastic bucket.
  • Lime 275 or400 gram mixed in 15 lit of water in a plastic bucket.
  • Next day add it solution in 70 lit water in a drum.
  • Check the solution ph simply deep iron rod 2-5 minutes if they shows a reddish brown colour add more lime till the iron rod is not stained on dipping.
  • Strain the prepared Bordeaux mixture through a cloth/strainer before spraying.
  • It is mainly used for spraying. 

Avoid

  • Do not use metallic containers .
  • Use the Bordeaux mixture soon after preparation
  • Not use the Bordeaux mixture in combination with any other chemical.
  • In hot days, when the plants are showing signs of temporary wilting do not sprayed particularly on newly emerged tender foliage.
